With over 200 forms of driver licenses in circulation today, Document Inspector arms DMV personnel, investigators, border crossing officials, and other workers at points of ID inspection-such as borders, airports, bars, and convenience stores-with a reliable method to validate driver licenses and other IDs. It instantly reads Digimarc® IDMarc™ digital watermarks and other card security features to confirm the authenticity of driver licenses and other citizen IDs — taking the guesswork out of visual inspection.
Digimarc Document Inspector comes with software and a scanner. It is easy to implement and use, providing a clear visual Pass/Fail result that immediately lets an operator or inspector know if an ID is authentic. Suspected fake IDs are flagged for either rejection or secondary inspection, depending on the user's business rules.

Ideal for Border Security
Document Inspector authenticates driver licenses and ID cards incorporating IDMarc and 2D and 1D barcodes, and optionally magnetic stripes. Using Document Inspector, border inspectors can instantly validate that the data contained in IDMarc (a covert security feature) matches the data in the overt security feature. Visible features, like 2D barcodes and others, can be altered, but when linked to a second feature that is imperceptible to the human eye, accurate authentication is possible.
In 2007, more than 1 in 2 U.S. driver licenses issued will feature IDMarc and that number is increasing quickly. This year, 12 states will exceed the 50% mark in terms of citizens carrying driver licenses with IDMarc, with some nearing 100%.
Nebraska Pilot Program
Under a grant from the US Department of Transportation (DOT) NHTSA, Digimarc selected the Nebraska DMV to take part in a pilot program designed to test and validate the use of digital watermarking to positively authenticate driver licenses in the field after they had been issued. The test included law enforcement, retail and DMV locations and at the conclusion, 100% of the participants surveyed reported that they believed IDMarc and Document Inspector were beneficial and gave them confidence that the ID scanned was authentic.
