Readers Can Now Access Enhanced, Interactive Content from the Pages of Photoshop User Using Their Smartphones

Beaverton, Ore — March 31, 2011 — Digimarc Corporation (NASDAQ: DMRC) announced today that Kelby Media Group, Inc., a leading provider of Adobe® Photoshop® education and training for creative professionals and photographers worldwide, is using the Digimarc Discover™ Platform within the media group’s Photoshop User magazine to deliver a range of rich media experiences to its readers on their smartphones. Photoshop User is the official publication of the National Association of Photoshop Professionals (NAPP), and by downloading the Digimarc Discover mobile application from iTunes or Android Market, its readers can instantly access enhanced content including video tutorials, step by step instructions, a continually updated events calendar, product reviews, and much more from printed articles and advertisements.

Unique to the Digimarc Discover Platform is its ability to use various content identification technologies as needed, including the company’s patented digital watermarking technology. In print, digital watermarks can be thought of as invisible barcodes that are quickly detected by computers, networks and digital devices like smartphones. They differ from barcodes; however, in that they are easily embedded into all forms of media and are imperceptible to human senses. Digital watermarking solutions do not require publishers to give up valuable space in magazines and newspapers; nor do they impact the overall layout or aesthetics of the publication.

"NAPP members gain a lot of value from our online video content. By using the Digimarc Discover Platform we give them immediate access to highly useful content from the printed articles in Photoshop User," said Felix Nelson, NAPP Creative Director. "Our designers are also glad that the technology does not take up space or compromise the page layout and design as the use of 2D barcodes or QR codes would have."

Photoshop User joins Beer West as the first two U.S. magazines to use the Digimarc Discover Platform, following the success of Card e-Motion based in Austria who began using Digimarc-enabled solutions in October in magazines distributed by Volkswagen within Germany, and aquaMobile a company in Spain who offers its Clic2C solution throughout Europe and currently has more than a dozen deployments with magazines and newspapers. Published by Kelby Media Group, Photoshop User is the official publication of the NAPP and is published ten times a year for NAPP’s 71,000 members worldwide. Single issues are also available on newsstands.

"We are excited to work with Kelby Media Group, Inc; not only in Photoshop User, but also in conjunction with the NAPP’s official convention — Photoshop World. Their use of the Digimarc Discover Platform gives them a powerful new way to engage their customers through the magazine and printed materials used in conferences, training events and marketing programs," commented Jeri Owen, VP of Marketing at Digimarc Corporation. "We also believe it will encourage the primary readers of the magazine — graphic artists and photographers — to get inspired about how they can make their creations interactive while keeping the aesthetic integrity of their creative work intact."

Last month Digimarc launched the Digimarc Discover™ Online Services Portal (OSP), a web-based service for newspaper and magazine publishers, marketers, and advertisers to link articles and advertisements to enhanced content, interactive ads and many other multi-sensory experiences. The Digimarc Discover OSP is the first offering of its kind, and the only service to enable the embedding of digital watermarks into publications to deliver enriched content on smartphones. For a limited time, anyone can access and use basic functions within the portal at no charge during an open beta period, which ends May 31, 2011.

NAPP is providing copies of Photoshop User magazine at its upcoming Photoshop World Conference taking place March 30th - April 1st at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Florida.
