Top Australian Publisher Launches Mobile Application Using Digimarc Technology as Standard for Magazine Portfolio

Beaverton, Ore — June 11, 2012 — Digimarc Corporation (NASDAQ: DMRC) today announced that Pacific Magazines, a leading Australian publisher, launched a new mobile companion application branded "Genie" that integrates Digimarc's patented digital watermarking technology as the publisher's standard print-to-mobile solution across its portfolio of magazines. Genie provides Pacific Magazines' readers, totaling 35% of all Australians aged 14+ each month*, with instant access to multi-media experiences and offers a deeper level of reader engagement.

Pacific Magazines began using the Digimarc Discover platform in its publications in January 2012 with Better Homes and Gardens. Since then Marie Claire, and popular weekly magazines, Who and Famous, have integrated digital watermarks into their editorial and advertising content.

"Digimarc's technology has been a great success for our magazines," comments Jahzeel Omar, Business Manager, Pacific Magazines. "Integrating this innovative technology into our own branded mobile companion app for use across all of our publications was a natural next step."

In every magazine, the Genie logo will be used as the call to action, making it easy for readers to identify the pages with additional content.

"Genie instantly provides our readers with premium off-the-page multimedia experiences — including video, social media, maps, click to call, competitions and calendar reminders — and completes the loop for our advertisers via seamlessly integrating offline and online campaigns," commented Peter Zavecz, Commercial Director, Pacific Magazines.

Using the Genie app, available for free on the iTunes App Store and Google Play, readers simply point their smartphone's camera at the enhanced content and the imperceptible digital watermark embedded in the page is automatically detected — triggering the associated interactive experience.

"We continue to hear from publishers like Pacific Magazines that keeping readers in a branded environment following the scanning of our digital watermarks is increasingly important," said Ed Knudson, EVP, Sales and Marketing of Digimarc Corporation. "Pacific Magazine's selection of Digimarc Discover as its print-to-mobile solution across its magazine portfolio attests to the platform's flexibility and we're confident that Pacific's readers and advertisers alike will be very happy with their decision."

About the Digimarc® Discover Platform

The Digimarc Discover platform enables smartphones and other sensor-equipped devices to "see and hear" media content using built-in cameras and microphones. Consumers simply direct their phone at content they are interested in and are presented with a range of associated network services such as purchase a product, view a video, save for later, download a coupon, or share with a friend, for example. The Digimarc Discover mobile applications are available for licensing and can be integrated into existing applications.

Publishers and others can embed digital watermarks into content using the Digimarc Discover Online Services Portal (OSP). The OSP is being used by magazines, newspapers, packaging companies, advertising agencies, and others to enable a variety of new experiences and capabilities from print.
