Beaverton, Ore. and New York City, NY – NRF Booth #132 – Jan. 9, 2014 – Digimarc Corporation (NASDAQ: DMRC) today announced it will attempt to break the Guinness World Record for fastest time to scan and bag 50 items at National Retail Federation’s Annual Convention & EXPO (Retail’s BIG Show) 2014. Attendees are invited to witness the event at the Digimarc Booth #132 Monday, January 13 at 3 PM ET. A Guinness World Record adjudicator will be on hand to monitor and verify the attempt.
To set a new world record, Digimarc will utilize 50 items featuring their soon-to-be-launched Digimarc Barcode and a Datalogic Magellan™ 9800i multi-plane imaging scanner. Prior tests of this system have confirmed dramatically faster checkout performance; professional checkers can leisurely scan packages at rates exceeding 36 items per minute, compared to the industry average of 24 items per minute when scanning traditional UPC codes.
During this event, attendees will see how checkout clerks, as well as shoppers using self-checkout, can quickly scan items without having to find and position the barcode toward the reader, resulting in shorter lines for consumers and improved margins for retailers.
The record will be attempted by Digimarc’s Ed Knudson, Executive Vice President, Sales and Marketing and Sean Calhoon, Senior Director, Product Management, neither of whom have any professional experience as store clerks or baggers.
