Beaverton, Ore and New York City, NY — NRF Booth #418 — January 7, 2015 — In anticipation of the National Retail Federation’s Annual Convention and EXPO (Retail’s BIG Show) 2015, Digimarc Corporation (NASDAQ: DMRC) and HP are updating retailers and consumer packaged goods (CPG) brands on progress in creating mobile engagement tools for digital presses. These tools are intended to enable HP digital press customers to seamlessly connect printed pieces to the Internet via smartphones and other mobile devices. HP has released key components of the collaborative infrastructure, including the HP Link Creation Studio and HP LinkReader mobile application (iOS/Android). The HP tools are built on the Digimarc® Discover platform and enable the built-in cameras of today’s mobile devices to efficiently and accurately identify printed media. Consumers simply direct their mobile device at content they are interested in and are presented with interactive experiences.
“One of the most exciting features of digital presses is the ability to serialize output,” said Bruce Davis, Digimarc Chairman and CEO. “Digital presses are an important infrastructure component of the Digimarc Discover platform. We are fostering a network of service providers worldwide to bring the benefits of this platform to the broadest possible range of users. We and HP share the view that all print materials should have inherent network identities which provide reliable, intuitive, and scalable systems for connecting to and engaging with the immense resources of the Internet.”
“Giving printed material equal Internet citizenship — or an online identity — is the future of the commercial and home publishing industry,” said Glen Hopkins, Vice President & General Manager, Printing & Technology Platforms at HP. “HP is working with Digimarc to not only enable our own printed materials with their technology but to also help our retail and other customers bring their printed communications into the digital age.”
Earlier this year, Savannah College of Art and Design began utilizing the companies’ breakthrough technology in the nation’s first “Live City” installation. Walking around the city of Savannah, Georgia, pedestrians scan digitally watermarked images on maps, posters and other printed materials using the Digimarc-powered LinkReader app and are instantly linked to exclusive user content. With this digital vantage, tourists learn more easily about Savannah’s rich history and unique attractions.
The companies will continue to update customers throughout 2015 on their collaboration to enhance printed materials found throughout the shopper’s journey, at home, on the go and in the store.
