As one of the largest creativity conferences in the world, Adobe Max 2023 draws some of the most creative thinkers and innovative designers from everywhere. That’s why, as a sponsoring exhibitor, Digimarc was thrilled to see such a strong focus on and hear such interesting feedback about content and copyright protection at the event this month in Los Angeles.
At keynote speeches, during sessions, and in our booth, we heard from professionals who are both excited about the potential for generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) and concerned about its implications for their creative careers. After all, if synthetic content is faster and easier to create than human designs – no matter how compelling – it leaves designers wondering (perhaps worried) about their role in the future.
Major companies are also concerned, and many – like Digimarc – are doing something about it.
In conjunction with the nonprofit Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity (C2PA) organization it co-founded, Adobe introduced at Adobe Max 2023 a special icon as part of a new transparency initiative, “Content Credentials,” intended to help identify the authenticity of digital media assets in this current era of increasing uncertainty about the veracity of images and other content.
Digimarc shares those concerns, which is why we recently introduced Digimarc Validate to help protect digital assets with digital watermarks that communicate copyright ownership, prove authenticity, and enable brands and creatives to track where their assets are being used. I had an opportunity to demonstrate our product to many tradeshow attendees and multiple news reporters, and the feedback was powerful.
Many crave automations to protect their work without the time, effort, and hassle of adding more manual processes to the design process. Several cited the need for device manufacturers and tool makers to add protections and, in fact, both Leica and Nikon previewed support for the Content Credentials initiative in their cameras.
Other attendees didn’t yet recognize the urgency to act, even as the content world is rapidly shifting. We educated participants on the need to act now and how to protect copyrights on their hard work so they can monetize their value and guard their brand reputation.
If you couldn’t attend this year, we encourage you to go in 2024 and we hope to see you there. Meanwhile, if you’re interested in learning more about Digimarc’s perspectives on content protection and other themes, please check our thought leadership resources.
